PCC members recently gathered at Fox Dog Yoga Studio in East Islip for one of our most adorable meetups yet—Puppy Yoga. The studio started out warm, calm, and serene as everyone rolled out their mats and prepared for class. But once the puppies arrived, the energy in the room changed instantly. It also got a lot warmer—because to keep the puppies from escaping, all the doors had to be closed. With a room full of playful pups and laughing members, things heated up quickly.
Our friendly and encouraging instructor guided everyone through a variety of poses, including the always appropriate downward dog, while the puppies happily joined in however they saw fit. Some tried their own versions of yoga poses, others wandered from mat to mat offering surprise cuddles, and occasionally the whole group would burst into a high-speed game of chase that looked like a blur of fuzz and fur racing across the studio.
The puppies—12-week-old mixed large breed dogs from a local shelter—were the perfect mix of cuddly and mischievous. One highlight came when a puppy grabbed someone’s beaded key ring, convinced it was the world’s greatest chew toy. As he trotted proudly around the room with the jangling prize, a whole parade of curious puppies followed close behind, completely mesmerized by the sound like a tiny canine version of the Pied Piper.
Another fan favorite moment involved a puppy who decided that Billy was his person, spending nearly the entire class happily chewing on Billy’s beard and licking his face with total devotion.
Beyond the cuteness and chaos, the meetup also supported a great cause. The puppies all come from a local shelter, and part of the event proceeds helps support their care while they wait for their forever homes.
Between the stretching, the laughter, and the endless puppy cuddles, this quickly became one of our favorite PCC member meetups. If you’d like us to organize another Puppy Yoga event, let us know! Contact Sharin
