Recently, Positive Community Connections was invited to the NY Islanders Hockey With A Heart Networking event at UBS Arena, in Elmont, NY.  Chair of the Board of Directors for PCC, John Innis and Nassau County Community Connector, Marisa Ludwikowski were given the opportunity to learn about the philanthropic work of the NY Islanders and how they take pride in getting involved with the surrounding community.

Everyone was glowing at PCC's GlowGolf Meetup last week.  Participants came together in friendly competition as they navigated the 54-hole course, in one of the biggest glow-in-the-dark golf settings around. From battling the sneaky snake to golfing under the sea, it's safe to say that everyone became pro mini golfers by the end of the evening. It was a cool mini-golf experience.

Nassau Voice had an opportunity to brighten someone's day, once again. Members created beautiful and thoughtful Valentine's Day gift bags for children that are currently in the children's ward at Mount Sinai hospital in Oceanside. Each bag included a get-well message, a Valentine's Day card, crayons, coloring books, Play-Doh and materials to make their own card for someone special. These bags are sure to warm hearts and spread the love.

PCC's Executive Director, Sharin and Nassau County Community Connector, Marisa, had the opportunity to attend The Oceanside Library's Volunteer Fair for a second year in a row. There, they made connections with local organizations and community members who expressed interest in volunteering with us and to lend a helping hand. It was a great afternoon of community, camaraderie and connecting with others who have the same vision and goal.

PCC was taken to new heights yesterday at the Cradle of Aviation Museum.  We had the opportunity to go on a tour of the Museum with our amazing, knowledgeable tour guide, Jeanelly. She took us through the history of aviation and space. We learned so many interesting facts. Did you know that the Roosevelt Field Mall was an airfield? Or that parts of the museum are on the airfields that are displayed in the museum? We were blown away by these facts and so many more!

PCC braved the frigid weather to participate in Bellmore-Merrick High School District's Transition Fair. We spent the evening making connections and spreading PCC's mission at Calhoun High School. Everyone we interacted with was so nice and enthusiastic about the idea of us working together in the future, or happy that places like PCC exist. We are looking forward to attending this fair next year.

bowling

PCC had some friendly bowling competition this week at Maple Lanes in Rockville Centre. Spares and strikes were made, and high scores were beaten. It was a great way to spend the afternoon with friends and get to know each other. It was a great way to start off meetups in the new year!

nerf mania meetup

It was a cold January night and the air was fridged, but our PCC members were heating up the arena at our Nerf Mania Meetup. We visited the NY Dart Zone in Holbrook for a crazy fun night of dart fun. Each member weilded a nerf gun with the aim to protect their teammates from a foam onslaught! Running, dogding, leaping and shooting, we were people of action! Nerf Mania was a BLAST!!!!

This holiday season our PCC Live-Wired crew got in the spirit of season by helping the Sachem library design and install their Winter Garden Lightshow! They fought with blowup animals, untangled hundreds of lights and hung a tunnel full of glowing icicles. What a wonderful way to give and enjoy the fun of the season with our friends and neighbors!
